Doctor of Pharmacy provides a broad exposure to students in health care sector. Pharmacovigilance (ADR Detection and reporting), clinical research, clinical pharmacy, medical writing are various fields which are governed by clinical pharmacists. With an incredible development of the health care services/ pharmaceutical industries, the demand for trained pharmacy professionals is increasing. Rising elderly population, chronic illnesses, and insurance cover are some additional contributing factors. Pharmacists are becoming more actively engaged in drug therapy, decision-making and pharmaceutical care, meeting the rising demand of trained pharmacy professionals. Pharmacy practice is a rewarding career in today’s expanding health care setting. Department of pharmacy practice was established at SCES’s Indira College of Pharmacy, Pune in 2016 with the introduction of Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm. D.) program, first time in private sector of Maharashtra. The department provides experiential training to Pharm. D. students to understand and undertake activities such as drug information, patient counseling, medication history interview, assessment of drug interaction, identify and resolve drug related problems, pharmacovigilance, periodic safety update report (PSUR), Clinical Research, health screening program, community outreach program, etc. This training helps students to become leader in today's dynamic healthcare environment by catering to the needs of the clinicians and patients and thus provides best pharmaceutical care to diseased patients.
