The past 10 years have been eventful for the pharmaceutical industry. Government and private sectors are working consistently towards improvement of healthcare among people. Pharmaceutical products or drugs are one of the important components of health care management. A 'Pharmacist' component of health care management, his role is expanding from a dispenser, manufacturer to a researcher and a patient counsellor. It is one of the few professions which has shown significant growth rate even in the time of recession. The pharmaceutical industry is growing by leaps and bound, and every day new developments with respect to pharmaceutical technology are evident. Today, a new era of clinical research has opened many new career opportunities for the budding pharmacists. In this era of rapid changes, pharmacy educational institutions, Universities, Govt. regulatory bodies (AICTE, PCI and DTE of Maharashtra) in tandem with the pharmaceutical and healthcare industry must analyse and understand the situation and work together with newer vision and goals for creating state-of-the-art pharmacy education in India. This would require a well-designed curriculum and syllabus, resource identification, faculty development and student selection.
